I was surprised last Saturday that I received an Email subjected “A voice from the past” by Dr. Coleman A. Jennings, a mentor of mine from the University of Texas (UT) at Austin. He asks what I am working on, and informs me that he is going to publish a new book, Nine Plays by José Cruz González - Magical Realism & Mature Themes in Theatre for Young Audience.
Dr. Jennings is not only a senior professor and director in the Department of Theater and Dance of the UT, but also a former president of the Children's Theatre Association of America. While I was there in 1997, I attended his lecture of “Creative Drama for Youth,” and went with him to watch theatre Bambi. It’s too difficult to forget his advice and kindness that he organized two excellent professors’ courses for me to audit. If I didn’t have attended his class, I wouldn’t research on the field of Drama Education for my PhD.
